As an independent research organization, the Morgridge Institute for Research explores uncharted scientific territory to discover tomorrow’s cures. In affiliation with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, we support researchers who take a fearless approach to advancing human health in emerging fields such as virology, advanced multi-scale fluorescence and electron microscopy, metabolism and regenerative biology. Through public programming, we work to inspire scientific curiosity in everyday life.
The Opportunity:
The Morgridge Institute for Research is building a large Aquatics Core Facility that maintains several thousand tanks of research fish for multiple principal investigators, requiring highly specialized aquatics husbandry and functions. With the associated responsibilities increasing as the facility grows, the Aquatics Facility Assistant is needed to ensure that the facility performs efficiently. This is part-time, working 20-25 hours per week and will be an in-person position.
Duties include:
- Supporting facility sanitation protocols
- Washing fish tanks and components
- Cleaning and organizing facility and equipment
- Washing glassware
- Husbandry – Feed fish and record water quality parameters
- Assist husbandry staff on miscellaneous jobs, as needed

Education and Experience
- High School diploma required; associate’s degree preferred.
- Previous experience working with and caring for animals.
- Training will be provided.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Working in and around a wet laboratory environment.
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Standing for long periods of time is required.
- Working directly with fish waste, algae, and aquaculture effluents.
- Working with cleaning agents and detergents.
