A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the newly established Cantor Laboratory within the Metabolism Theme at the Morgridge Institute for Research. Our lab studies cellular metabolism and how it is influenced by microenvironmental factors, with a particular focus on hematological cancers and normal lymphocytes. We apply a highly interdisciplinary approach that combines principles from biochemistry, engineering, and molecular biology with cutting-edge technologies in metabolomics, functional genomics (CRISPR), and chemical genetics.
Within the broad scope of our research vision, the specific project(s) will be finalized in consultation with the associate. In general, the candidate will think critically in hypothesis generation, experimental design, and data interpretation. Successful candidates will also exhibit an enthusiasm to expand their scientific communication skillsets, including in fellowship/manuscript writing and seminar-like presentations. Tools at the candidate’s disposal include, among others, a large library of human hematological cancer cell lines, state-of-the-art mass spectrometry, and access to the Carbone Cancer Center small molecule screening facility at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The ideal candidate will be creative, highly self-motivated, and enjoy working independently as well as collaboratively.
- A Ph.D. (or M.D., Ph.D.) in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related discipline
- A track record of leading projects to publication in peer-reviewed journals
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Candidates with prior research experience in cellular metabolism will be given preference.
The successful candidate must have expertise in core molecular biology techniques (bacterial culture, recombinant DNA technologies, PCR, Western blot analysis) and background knowledge in biochemistry and cell biology. The ideal candidate will have strong prior experience with one or more of mammalian cell culture, enzyme assays, metabolomics, proteomics, or CRISPR.
