In affiliation with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, we support researchers who take a fearless approach to advancing human health in emerging fields such as regenerative biology, metabolism, virology and biomedical imaging. Through public programming, we work to inspire scientific curiosity in everyday life.

Job Purpose:

The Morgridge Institute seeks a motivated Student Graphic Designer to start immediately and continue through the Fall 2023 semester and onward. The student will work at the interface of graphic design and scientific storytelling, and will support the lead Graphic Designer in creating effective communication material for labs, staff, and the communications team at Morgridge. We are seeking an individual who is detail-oriented, demonstrates the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively, and is able to multitask and work well under deadlines. The student should be able to commit to 10–15 hours per week and have availability during the work week (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). There may be opportunities for more hours over breaks and summer. Student positions offer flexible schedules, an opportunity to gain great work experience, and the ability to network and collaborate with Morgridge staff.

Requirements:

This position will be responsible for a variety of tasks including creating communication material, providing feedback to improve visual communications, and generating material from existing templates. Deliverables will range from publication-quality data and conceptual figures for manuscripts and grant proposals, scientific posters for meetings, and professional slides for scientific presentations, to journal cover art, website graphics, and display and scheduling material for institute events.

Education and Experience

Ideal candidates will be working toward an associate or bachelor’s degree.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Candidates should have a strong scientific curiosity and design sense, and must be able to maintain precision and efficiency while working on multiple projects with variable deadlines. Extensive prior experience working with Adobe Illustrator is required and experience with other Adobe programs such as Photoshop is preferred.
