I study the molecular basis for coenzyme Q deficiencies, specifically those caused by mutations in the COQ9 gene. Coenzyme Q is one of the most hydrophobic lipids in life, and I am particularly interested in understanding how cells synthesize and transport such a hydrophobic molecule.
