I am an undergraduate in Biomedical Engineering continuing a project to develop a device to monitor for upper-airway obstructions in pediatric anesthesia administration under the direction of Kevin Eliceiri, Morgridge Medical Engineering. As a patient is anesthetized, their natural reflexes cease to protect them from airway obstruction, this device will help clinicians quantitatively monitor the state of their patient prior to endotracheal tube intubation. This project is a collaboration with Dr. Guelay Bilen-Rosas a pediatric anesthesiologist at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and is also possible through the Burbee Walsh Prototype Pathway . A partnership with a team of students through Biomedical Engineering Design has helped to set this idea on a route towards reality under the direction of Dr. Amit Nimunkar , University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Biomedical Engineering.
