Student Lab Assistant – Cantor Lab

As an independent research organization, the Morgridge Institute for Research explores uncharted scientific territory to discover tomorrow’s cures. In affiliation with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, we support researchers who take a fearless approach to advancing human health in emerging fields such as virology, advanced multi-scale fluorescence and electron microscopy, metabolism and regenerative biology. Through public programming, we work to inspire scientific curiosity in everyday life.

The Opportunity:

The Morgridge Institute for Research seeks a Student Lab Assistant to work in Dr. Jason Cantor’s Metabolism lab. We are seeking a student who can commit to 8-12 hours per week and has availability weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Located in the Discovery Building, the Cantor Lab is situated in the heart of the UW-Madison campus at 330 North Orchard Street and is easily accessible by bus.

A variety of tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning and sterilizing lab glassware
  • Disposing of waste materials, including those generated for tissue culture
  • Maintaining a clean laboratory environment
  • Restocking commonly used supplies

The Student Lab Assistant performs foundational support tasks that allow the laboratory to remain highly functional and productive. Successful laboratory assistants are highly motivated and expected to operate independently and under minimal supervision. They are excellent communicators and can efficiently/effectively execute a variety of important and time-sensitive tasks. Student positions offer flexible schedules, an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, and the ability to network with Morgridge staff.

Requirements:

Ideal candidates will be working towards an associate or bachelor’s degree with a science focus. Ideal candidates will have successfully completed a college-level laboratory course in chemistry or biology. Candidates must be detail-oriented, demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and they must be able to multitask and work in a timely manner.
