Jim Burris is Director of the Aquatics Research Center at the Morgridge Institute. He received his B.S. in Marine Biology from Waynesburg University and his M.S. in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from the University of Florida. He is a Certified Aquaculture and Fish Health Specialist, Certified NOAA Fisheries Observer, Certified Aquatic Pesticides Applicator, Certified in Offshore Survival Training, Certified Animal Control Agent, and Certified Fishing Guide. Being a subject matter expert in recirculating aquaculture he has served on professional committees for academic institutions, the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science, National Institutes of Health Office of Research Infrastructure Programs, and the Zebrafish Husbandry Association to develop training material and policies to advance standards for using fish as research models. Previously, he was Director of the Duke University Zebrafish Core Facilities for 16 years.
Education
Jim received a BS in Marine Biology from Waynesburg University in 2003 and a MS in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from the University of Florida in 2016. He has a professional certification as an Aquaculture and Fish Health Specialist from the University of Florida.
