In a guest blog for the Nov. 22 online edition of Scientific American, Morgridge Institute CEO Brad Schwartz writes about a challenge research institutions face in conveying the true societal value of research.
Schwartz argues that the scientific community must develop more meaningful metrics than using grant totals as a proxy for research quality. He describes the Morgridge Institute’s own review framework and offers ideas for aligning the research community around this challenge.
“Only by ditching our small-minded focus on grant dollars can we incubate the kind of fearless science our world needs,” Schwartz writes.
