Each year, we produce public events that connect the public and our scientists. We also offer several targeted programs designed to provide research experiences for area students and teachers, especially those from populations that have been historically marginalized in the sciences.
For Schools and K-12 Students
Field Trips
In cooperation with researchers and other partners at UW–Madison, students from kindergarten through 12th grade can visit campus for hands-on science experiences designed to ignite curiosity in STEM.
Afterschool Expeditions
After-school groups and community centers in the greater Madison area can partner with our education staff to provide on-site sciences experiences for youth.
Summer Science Camp
These residential camps, held on-campus in the summer, help students practice hands-on science and ignite their passion for STEM careers.
Middle-School STEM Camps
Middle-school students from the Madison Metropolitan School District, who are nominated by their teachers, can attend this free week-long summer camp hosted by the Morgridge Institute.
Biotechnology Youth Apprenticeships
Our apprentices participate in the youth apprenticeship program administered by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and combine career experience with relevant coursework during high school.

Wisconsin Science Festival
Morgridge is a proud co-producer of the Wisconsin Science Festival, a weeklong celebration of curiosity and creativity. Since 2011, the Festival has inspired hundreds of thousands of people in Wisconsin through public science events.
Science Expeditions Discovery Expo
The spring edition of the Discovery Expo is produced as part of Science Expeditions, the annual campus open house for science. Families can explore hands-on science stations, chat with researchers, and explore at their own pace!
Discovery Expo and Field Trip Day
Part of the Wisconsin Science Festival, the Discovery Science Expo offers dozens of interactive, hands-on exploration stations that feature STEM activities ranging from virtual reality, health and medicine, chemistry, astrobotany and more!

Crossroads of Ideas
Crossroads of Ideas is a public lecture series held monthly on Tuesday evenings during the academic year that addresses challenging and engaging social science topics such as politics, policy issues, ethics, public perceptions, law and science and society.
Blue Sky Science
Blue Sky Science is a collection of Q&A videos in which scientists answer curiosity-driven questions from the public. The project is a collaboration of the Morgridge Institute for Research and the Wisconsin State Journal.
